NASA will utilize SpaceX's Crew Dragon for two crewed missions to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2025, while it assesses whether Boeing's Starliner necessitates an additional test flight for certification. According to SpaceNews, NASA announced on October 15 that Crew Dragon will be employed for both the Crew-10 mission to the ISS, scheduled for no earlier than February 2025, and the Crew-11 mission, anticipated for no earlier than July. The Crew-10 mission will carry NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, alongside astronaut Takuya Onishi from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov. The crew for the Crew-11 mission has yet to be disclosed by NASA. Earlier this year, NASA had expressed optimism that Boeing's CST-100 Starliner would achieve certification in time for the early 2025 mission. However, complications arising from the Crew Flight Test mission, which launched in June with NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams aboard, led NASA to determine in July that the spacecraft would not be certified in time. Consequently, the Starliner-1 mission has been postponed from February to August 2025, allowing Crew-10 to proceed in February. NASA also indicated that it would concurrently prepare Crew-11 alongside Starliner-1 for launch during the August 2025 timeframe. "The timing and configuration of Starliner's next flight will be established once a clearer understanding of Boeing's pathway to system certification is achieved," NASA stated regarding the 2025 missions. "NASA is considering various options to effectively attain system certification, including potential opportunities for a Starliner flight in 2025."
