All Round Cooling

In refrigerators that have All Round Cooling, separate cooling circuits help to keep your food fresher. Conventional fridges have one evaporator that cools both the freezer as well as the refrigerator compartment. This can lead to the food being dry due to the low-humidity atmosphere from the refrigerator is pumped into. This can cause them to taste bland and unpleasant.

Each shelf level is fitted with multiple vents that circulate cool air. This ensures a constant temperature, even when you shut and open the fridge door.

Optimal Fresh Zone keeps meats and fish fresher for up to twice as long as in conventional fridges, without freezing them. This feature is a game changer for anyone who loves to cook, but hates the fuss of thawing frozen meat or fish.

All Round Cooling employs an All Round Cooling metal cooling plate that is located at the back of the refrigerator in order to hold cold air and stop its loss when you open the door. It also reduces your need for power defrosting saving you both time and money.

The ice dispenser on Samsung fridges is one of the most efficient we've ever tested. The original Twist Ice Maker dispensing large cubes is operated with a simple twist and can be stored beneath the fridge when not in use. This allows for more shelf space and makes it easier to find your favorite snacks and drinks.

Samsung's Family Hub is the central control for your SmartThings connected home through a large touchscreen on your fridge. It can show live video feeds from your smart doorbell, place orders for groceries based on an automated inventory or suggest recipes based on the ingredients you have on hand.

The flex drawers on the bottom of Samsung fridges are a smart storage solution that makes it easier to store taller items such as canned drinks or trays of pizza. They can be turned over when not in use and folded flat to free up space. This is a fantastic feature for those who are passionate about cooking and baking and have a limited storage space in their refrigerators.

It's a good-looking fridge with a bottom-right FlexZone compartment that converts from refrigerator to freezer. This lets you store things like bags of frozen meat, frozen vegetables or fish in the freezer. It also did well in our tests, however the 21.5-inch touchscreen's superfluous apps and the absence of voice control or SmartThings integration make it seem like a missed opportunity.

The remainder of the fridge is full of room to store food, including two crisper trays and an upper FlexZone drawer that can be customised. The latter lets you select between five different settings for the fridge freezer drawer according to your requirements. These include the freeze setting that is compatible with the freezer settings and an option for a soft freeze setting on wine or deli tray, a meat and fish setting, and a beverage setting for drinks, snacks and other items that are frequently accessed.

This Samsung FlexZone side by side refrigerator is perfect for families who want to have a refrigerator and a freezer in one unit. It's not as large as the top French-door models but offers many useful features. This is a great option for those who have small spaces in their homes.

The Samsung Fridge Freezer is also a very energy-efficient refrigerator, thanks to its digital inverter technology. This technology regulates the temperature inside the fridge, so it doesn't fluctuate too much, and helps keep your food fresher for longer. Its energy efficiency has earned it an ENERGY STAR certification.

SmartThings

SmartThings isn't quite the same platform that Alexa and Google Assistant are, but it does have many smart devices that you can add. It's also integrated into Samsung smartphones, tablets and TVs - as well as some fridges. It could be enough to make it worthwhile for some, especially when you own a variety of Samsung products.

The SmartThings application is very polished and well rounded and comes with a 'if x then y' automation section that works surprisingly well. You can set up things as alarms that go off when sensors detect flooding or turn on the lights when your phone detects you are at home. It can also control your refrigerator if you link it to a smart plug though we've had mixed results with this.

You'll need a hub to use SmartThings, and it's not inexpensive. Samsung has a number of different options, including the SmartThings Station that you can attach to an existing router and use it as a nightlight. There's also a less expensive SmartThings Hub Dongle that can support Z-Wave and Zigbee and Thread with support to be added soon.

Once you've connected your smart refrigerator to your smartphone and hub, it's extremely simple to use. have a peek here app lets you control your fridge from any location, with notifications sent to your phone when it's closed or opened. You can create schedules, adjust the temperature, and even set reminders.

SmartThings was a founding member in the Home Connectivity Alliance. This alliance is working to make major home appliances made by different manufacturers compatible. It could mean that you'll be able to control your Samsung washer and dryer, Electrolux oven and LG television with the same app in the near future.

While it's not as well used as Alexa or Google Assistant, SmartThings does have some major players on its roster which include Arlo, Nest, Belkin and Lifx. It's also compatible with Matter, a protocol that allows accessories to be paired regardless of brand. For most people however, combining Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls is probably the best bet.

Family Hub

This refrigerator freezer is the most modern you can get. It features a 21-inch touchscreen built into the door and a number of clever features. You can access entertainment apps, make notes for family members (think a huge digital version of a notebook that's stuck to the fridge) and check for weather updates, and much more, all thanks to Samsung's own voice activation assistant, Bixby.

The touchscreen allows you to manage your food and recipes. You can add ingredients from an app and see what's in your fridge using internal cameras. You can create grocery lists on the go and track foods to see their expiration dates. You can even download a dedicated recipe app that will read out the instructions while you cook.

Samsung has spent a whole year working on the Family Hub fridges based on feedback from customers. One of the major changes is that you can now create different profiles for every household member so they can customize the information and apps they can access. It's not as great as the Alexa integration in your fridge, but it's an improvement over the model of last year.

Besides its ability to manage grocery and entertainment, Family Hub also acts as an interface for Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can be used to control Matter-compatible devices such as lights, plugs, and locks.

Samsung's fridge is only a few years old, and while it still offers a wide range of functions however, its touchscreen capabilities aren't something that majority of people would consider a must-have. They're more fun and a bit of frivolous features than any other feature.

That might change as more software updates are made available, but for now these models are ideally suited to those who want the most complete connected fridge possible. If you're not among those, you could choose a lower-cost model without the Family Hub to save some cash. If you have many smart home devices that you need to control with one screen, or if you are awed by the idea of having a fridge with a giant touchscreen, it could be worth the cost.
