This Week's Most Popular Stories About Best Self-Emptying Vacuum Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Eufy 11S is one the cheapest self-emptying robot vacuums available. In our tests it was able to remove dry oats from hard floors as well as low pile carpeting. Its dustbin is easy to empty and open -it's much simpler than some other models in its price range.

It recharges at the base and then resumes cleaning when fully charged. However, its obstacle-avoidance technology gets caught in cords and socks, and it's not able to go below low thresholds.

1. iRobot 11S

The 11S is a cheaper self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner that lots of users seem to enjoy. It is good at moving under furniture and is a great option for people with hard floors or for daily cleaning. The suction is weaker than our top picks, however it still does the job. It also has a large dirt bin and a battery that lasts for more than an hour. The app lets you schedule your daily cleaning or choose a specific room. You can also mark your home to help the device avoid areas that you don't wish it to visit.

The app is easy to use and has a simple layout. It's not a full-featured app however it's easy to use and allows you to check the status of your robot. It also includes an informative tutorial that can help you understand the basics.

The cleaning pattern of Bounce Navigation isn't always intuitive. Sometimes it follows straight lines and at other times, it concentrates on the edges of a space. However, it cleans the entire floor. It's not the greatest at navigating obstacles, though - it struggled to get under our piano pedals and pet food bowls, and was tangled up in our 2.25-inch shag rug a few times.

While it is a good option for light daily cleanings, we think there are better robot vacuums than the 11S. The iRobot Roomba is much easier to maintain and has lower costs for recurring maintenance and charges more quickly. It also has a bigger dustbin and is more effective on all types of surfaces and is able to overcome low-lying obstructions (like electrical cords) more easily.

The eufy RoboVac11S is a different alternative for regular vacuuming. It has a very similar design to our top choice and is great in removing small particles and fine dust from hard floors. It also does a great job on medium- and low-pile carpet. It has a large dirt container and uses BoostIQ for automatic suction power adjustment. It also has an easy-to-use remote control to use and you can schedule daily cleaning routines with the app. Its battery lasts for about an hour and the dustbin is able to be empty without taking it from the dock.

2. Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is an excellent robot vacuum and mop, with a surprising array of automation options. It comes in three options that include the basic S7, the S7 MaxV Plus, and the S7 MaxV Ultra. The S7 MaxV Ultra is the only model equipped with an Empty Wash Fillet Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot to return to its base after cleaning and empty the debris into a dust collection bag or reservoir, empty its dirty water tank, and clean its mopping pad.

Sensors on the S7 collaborate to clean and avoid obstacles. It can detect the types of floors, save maps of rooms and zones, and even detect dirt levels. It can also plan and conduct spot cleaning sessions. It did well in our standard tests, but it didn't exactly match the Roomba j7+ during the carpet deep clean test.

Utilizing the companion app, you can program the S7 to perform a cleaning cycle in accordance with your schedule. You can select the cleaning mode that is eco or automatic, as well as the day, week, or time. You can also choose whether the robot should stop if it runs out of power or encounters an obstacle.

You can still use the S7 if you don't own an iPhone by connecting a charging dock to a remote control. The remote controls are a bit confusing, but once you get the hang of them they work well. The power button also acts as a 'Cleaning' button, and the Spot Clean button instructs the robot to clean up an area around itself. The 'Spot Clean" button also triggers the child lock.

In addition to the new mapping capabilities, Roborock improved its mobile app by adding a live view feature that lets you check out what the S7 is up to at home. self emptying roomba can enable this by pressing a particular sequence of buttons on the S7 and then creating an unlock pattern in the app to use at any time you want to observe what the robot is up to.

3. Shark IQ Large

Shark's robot vacuums aren't as a hit than those from iRobot or Roborock. But our tests have shown that this model is one of the most effective self-emptying vacuums that are available. It is easy to set up and has a large bin which can be easily emptied (albeit loudly) into a trashcan once full. It can also be programmed to clean the whole house on a set schedule.

The IQ XL is able to connect to your WiFi at home, allowing you to monitor its cleaning progress from the Shark app. The app lets you set up a cleaning routine, receive push notifications regarding its condition as well as pause cleaning and then clean up, or set it to clean a single area. You can also control it using voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will tell you the power mode it's currently in--Eco, Normal or Max. We didn't discover that any of these modes made a significant difference to cleaning performance.

The IQ XL will automatically empty the dustbin at the end of each cleaning cycle into the base, and then automatically empty itself. Its bin can hold up 60 days worth of debris, so it won't need emptying more often than that, unless you own several pets with long hair. If you do have to empty it, all you need to do is remove the side bin, hold it over a trash container and then press a button that will let you eject the contents.

There isn't much to dislike about the Shark IQ XL, although it does feel slightly less robust than the Roomba 694. It clears many messes on carpeted flooring and does a decent job of moving itself around however it isn't as close to achieving the same performance as the iRobot Roomba i7 in terms of performance on carpeted surfaces. The i7 also feels more sturdy, is more durable and requires less maintenance. It also has lower recurring costs, charges faster and has comparable battery performance. It also has more advanced features for automation, like no-go zones and the ability to select the rooms that should be cleaned.

4. iRobot J7+

This robotic mop and vacuum combo is a rare beast that can perform both tasks efficiently. iRobot's Combo j7+ has all the advantages of its j7-based counterpart, including LiDAR mapping and self-emptying, but also includes additional features for vacuuming and mopping.

The new acoustic sensors assist the j7+ identify floor types, so it can decide between vacuuming and mopping during the first time it passes through a room. This information can also be used to determine the best cleaning options for rooms that have carpets and rug versus those with hard flooring.

Like many robotic vacuums, the j7+ is surprisingly quiet when running and it's even less noisy when it's mopping. The maximum reading of 64 decibels on our decibel meter is comparable to general office chatter.

It is easy to set up an cleaning schedule and then change what happens when the dust canister fills. The j7+ is also able to be controlled by voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app allows you to create and view maps from your home.

In our tests, the j7+ performed well on carpeted and hard flooring, removing the majority of the dirt we tossed at it. It isn't the best at dealing with pet hair as well as large debris such as sand, however it can remove these items with a bit of effort. It has good navigational abilities and two cliff sensors that stop it from falling down stairs or becoming stuck on furniture legs.

The j7+ has a few minor flaws. One of them is that it can get caught on cords or rugs and does not always turn off the mopping function when it's done vacuuming. Overall, this is an excellent model that ticks all the right boxes.

iRobot J7+ is one of the top auto-emptying systems we've ever tried. It drops its 14oz/0.4-liter dust canister into the base station, and it automatically emptys itself. This helps to reduce the amount of trash you'll need to dispose of and you'll only have to replace the reusable dust disposal bag from the dock every 60 days or so, depending on how often you use the J7+.
