Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet format of previous albums. It was a more ferocious, constant effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The edgier sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
