20 Myths About Upvc Replacement Door Handles: Busted
UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement. It is important to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.
The three measurements to check are the top screw's position the lever and key hole sizes. Refer to the size guide for help with this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever/lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be installed on doors that are new or replacement. This type door handle is available in a variety of designs and finishes. A number of manufacturers offer this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are constructed of durable materials and are perfect for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and use the same spindle and screws to secure them. They can be easily installed on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.

The sprung lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the finish is of high quality and performance will last for a long time. The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate the widest range of locks. This is useful for doors with narrower openings where the cylinder is further away from the door. A lever that is shorter can be used for doors with latches that can be opened by the thumb located on the inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc operates differently than lever handles on doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are commonly employed on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a variety of finishes & variations.
The handles are available in a variety of finishes, including White Chrome and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with an outstanding performance and durability for the purpose it was designed for.
All UPVC handle lever pads include a spindle and screws and can be mounted on the uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is typically a benefit when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have springs, which can solve the issue of handles for doors that slide out of horizontal position when not being used.
When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is important to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is also known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect in ensuring that you have the right handles.
Once you have the proper PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are in a appropriate shape to accommodate the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you need for your doors. They are typically round or square, with an internal lever and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the property. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed models that allow them to be placed on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate by using a key that unlock a cylinder case which will reveal pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and permitting them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.
Choosing the right cylinder is vitally important; this is dependent on the way your door and handle are used. For instance, exterior doors should be fitted with a more secure cylinder while doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders are available with extra features that increase security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. It is important to ensure that there is no extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.
Most newer cylinders have been designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in a different direction. This can help stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.
There are also cylinders designed to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent method of attack on cylinders where the break line inside the lock is targeted using a special tool to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is a faster and easier way to gain access than using a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which could make it difficult to prove insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is located in the base of the door handle backplate, providing a spring solution and returning your multipoint lock handles to their normal position after use. The handles had no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was disengaged. Adding this simple component is among the best ways to correct this issue and is an excellent way to stop your upvc doors from getting stuck in the open or closed position, since they aren't always simple to close manually.
These spring cassettes are specially made for use with multipoint locks that are sprung They will not work with non-sprung multipoint handles.
