The Reasons Volvo Replacement Key Fob Is More Tougher Than You Imagine Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love their key fob's convenient remote that comes with features. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even locate it via a smartphone application.


First, put the fob on an uncluttered work surface with the logo facing upwards. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, then carefully pull up.

Locking the Door

Volvo's remote key fobs are able to unlock the doors, tailgate, and the flap that holds the fuel filler of your vehicle with a touch of one button. They can also turn on the ignition, turn off the alarm, and even operate the sunroof if it's fitted. You'll never again have to look for your keys, or lose access to your vehicle.

If you're a new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may not be aware of its key fob's hidden features. One of these features is an unlocked/lock button that you can press in case the battery of your key fob fails.

To unlock the manual lock or unlock button hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Find the black button close to the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open a cover which hides the manual key blade. The cover can be turned counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.

Start the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs provide the convenience and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. A key fob, as any other battery-operated device, may lose charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.

You can activate this feature with the key fob if your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will heat or cool to the exact temperature it was set to when it was parked and last for up to 15 mins.

Remove the back cover of the key fob with your fingernail. A button should be placed underneath the cover on an angle, close to the body's edge. Take it off by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will fall out and slide off, revealing the manual key blade in! If you can't find the button, take a look around the now-uncovered manual key access for the lever or slot that is hidden.

Close the Windows

One of the nefarious features on Volvo key fobs is that you are able to close all windows immediately when you use the fobs. This is useful when trying to squeeze into a tight parking space, or just when you need some fresh air in the cabin while driving.

Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all of the windows, and the sunroof, if your car has one. Once you're done with the vehicle, you can close all the windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.

You can also activate the panic alarm inside your car using the key fob. This will emit a loud, attention-grabbing blare that could frighten away thieves and help you get home safe after a long night out. This feature is great if you reside in a hazardous area or wish to ensure the safety of your family when you are away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo's key fob is packed with many useful features. These are ideal when you're busy shopping for shopping or helping your kids to pack their sports equipment after practice.

For example, if you have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped) You can open it using the key fob. Press the button to open it and then use the same button to close it when you're done.

When you're ready to get your car started Use the key fob to push the START button (and do not worry about your battery failing or your car not starting because it comes with a backup mechanical key slot too). This is just one of the many helpful tricks to use with your new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs offer a great deal of convenience over a conventional mechanical car key. However, they're not able to work completely for a long time, and the batteries eventually go out of service. If you're running out of time or aren't keen on going to an establishment to have your key fob reset, you can achieve it at home.

Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and extra keys. Locate the small black button located at the left-hand corner of the key fob and slide it to the right. The cover will fall off and reveal the key blade that is mechanical underneath.

The button to unlock the key fob twice quickly, and you'll be able to unlock all the doors, as well as the tailgate. The lock button also shuts the windows and the sunroof (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Reconnect the battery and the alarm should cease. If not then the owner's manual must include a reset option.
