Dead Coin Battery

If your key fob stopped working but you're not in a position to reprogram it using an entirely new code, the most likely reason is a dead coin battery. It is possible to replace the battery yourself in less than ten minutes.

Open the key first from the side, without the rings made of metal. There's a clip-on lid that you can lever open using your nail. The old battery can be pulled out through the hole in the middle. Note: If you change the battery in error, or with a battery not appropriate, it could damage the remote. Always replace the battery with one of the same size, voltage and specification as the original.

If your key fob was submerged in water, it may be necessary to clean the chip prior to replacing the battery. This is especially true if it was dropped into the ocean or soapy water. It is crucial to do this right away, as water can damage your key fob's electronic chip.

Worn Buttons

Seat Ibiza keys stop working most often because the coin battery is dead. It's a simple fix that takes just a few moments. Key fobs also stop working if the buttons have worn out. This is another fix, and requires you to swap out the old key shell for a new one.

It is essential to replace the battery of the button cell correctly otherwise the key fob could become damaged. It's recommended to always make sure you use a new battery that has the same size, voltage, and specification. It's also important to ensure that the current battery's polarity is facing upwards.

The key fob is secured by rubber seals, which will keep water out. The submersion of the keyfob may cause the seals on the keyfob to break, causing damage to the chip's electronic components. This usually happens if you accidentally drop your key fob into the pool or leave it in the rain. If your key fob doesn't work even after replacing it or reprogramming, the receiver module could be faulty.

Water Damage

Rubber seals on the key fob block water from getting to the chip. This doesn't stop occasional splash. If you've survived a wash cycle or a dip in the ocean, the chip may be damaged.

This can be fixed by taking off the battery and cleaning the chip using isopropyl alcohol, or electronic cleaner. Let it dry completely before putting it back. If the chip has become damaged, it must be replaced with a brand new one.

If your key fob does not work after changing the battery and reprogramming it, then it could be a problem with the receiver module. This is the part of the car that receives the signals from the keyfob and sends the signals to the key ignition system. If you have an extra key fob, you can test it. The Key Lab locking should be activated and the ignition system light should come on. If this does not happen, the receiver module is defective. This is a costly repair but it can be fixed by an expert from your local garage.

Radio Interference

The receiver module in your key could be causing interference. Seat parts could provide an alternative key with a new receiver.

Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a new one, making sure it is in the proper polarity. You can also use an ordinary key with transponder chips that were previously on a worn or damaged key. It can be coded and cut to fit your vehicle as needed.

Faulty Receiver Module

The receiver module on your key fob transmits radio signals to the car. If the fob ceases to function it could be because the module is malfunctioning. This can be diagnosed by using an OBDII scanner or by calling the dealer.

The remote keyless entry system is vulnerable to interference from other devices that operate on the same frequency. This can include mobile phones, electrical devices and even household appliances.

If the fob is exposed to clean tap water, it could be possible to clean the electronic chip using paper towels and isopropyl ethanol.
