Mulliner, Bentley's coachbuilding unit bespoke, has created a unique keycase to mark the 100th anniversary of Bentley. The Key Lab is made from Dark Stained Burr Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes an eagle-like "B" paperweight, keys, and an unreleased booklet with 1930s 8 Litre images.

It's the perfect present to welcome a new owner into their opulent vehicle.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a company that takes its aesthetics very seriously. This is evident in the precise placement of its quilting as well as the use of leather that is made from products of cattle and sustainable managed forests, and the ingenuous patterns of its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you walk up to it to show its sculptural beauty and power with carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top car. Its rear tonneau, for instance, featured the largest piece of dark-stained, book-matched Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to a production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this bespoke design, craftsmanship and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the most sought-after automobile brand. The firm continues to push the boundaries with the latest technology and craftsmanship, including the introduction of the digital instrument cluster with an electric tilt-opening back glass sunroof and a crafted docking station for Apple iPads, and electrochromic smart glass that can be changed from transparent to opaque by pressing an arrow.

A century after its inception, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership following years of wrangling with BMW and BMW - celebrated its centennial in the year 2019. Prior to pandemic planning taking the spotlight, the marque had a range of special events and launches planned to commemorate this significant occasion.

Design

Bentley is known for its extravagant and lavish automobiles and even keys are designed to make a statement. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver with a large B' symbol to signal to everyone that you drive a Bentley. It also has the years 1919 and 2019 to commemorate the company's centenary.

The Mulsanne was redesigned and improved by Bentley Mulliner to become the ultimate Grand Touring car. It comes with two pairs of rear seats that were inspired by the luxury of private aviation, providing passengers with unparalleled comfort and security. A customized heating, ventilation and air conditioning system has been designed to provide each passenger with the ideal climate control setting.

Alongside a series of elegantly executed styling revisions as well as a suite of stylishly executed styling revisions, the Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that is capable of producing 560bhp and 479lbft of torque. This prodigious power is enhanced by a new suspension architecture that delivers Bentley's trademark hushed ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a custom-designed specification called the Centenary Specification for vehicles built in 2019. The cabin is decorated with cross-stitching as well as contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are stitched in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. A custom Bentley key case is also included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key features an opening button for the trunk, and another button that turns on the car. The key also comes with a switch that allows you to turn on the parking brake. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors while parking in a tight spot. This feature helps you get in and out of your car.

Each key takes two days to create. The key is cut by hand, shaped by hand, stitched, sealed, and then polished to create a high-end result. It is lightweight and durable and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's big car key, however it feels more substantial and premium.

Secure-A-Key is also included to protect against keyless entry theft. This device is put inside the remote control key fob and disables it after a few minutes of inactivity, which prevents thieves from transmitting the frequency of the key to other devices that are able to unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design reflects the company's values of excellence in craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as modern technology. Its headquarters in Crewe are home to over 4000 employees responsible for the design, development, and production of Bentley vehicles. They apply their skills that have been passed through generations to current automotive technology. This is the hallmark of British manufacturing at its best.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to create their own vehicle. The customers sit at a set of images, referred to "mood stations" and pick a set of photos - from scenic vistas to sporting events - that inspire them to design their own. After each selection is made, a pattern is created that reveals the model and color preferences of the customized Bentley.

The guests are given a key case made by hand that contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can also be fitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that light up the door's opening path with the owner's name or emblem as they make their way towards the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours to construct and build the Mulsanne. A key to that time-consuming effort is a reluctance to embrace modern tech. The Crewe factory workers do not use a machine to space perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. Instead of letting the car's built in sensors guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spaces drivers must do it by hand.

During the event, Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization capabilities using one particular example - the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to the founding father of the brand, William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited edition cars include the key, which displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
