How to unlock your Vehicle

Fortunately, there are some simple steps that you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Find a clean area to work on. Place all the tools you will need. Find the battery hatch and make sure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or a similar tool to open the hatch off. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to wear rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.

After the battery is removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are in place. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring section until it becomes loose and is able to slide off. Then, you can remove the cover to reveal the mechanical key blade that is hidden within. This is a way to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side when the battery of your key fob is dead or gone.

Note: Certain older Volvo models use another type of battery that is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of millimeters thinner than a CR2032 battery, so you'll need to be cautious about the placement of your replacement.
