Albums
Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums as well as 4 live albums. There are also compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done work with other artists and on soundtracks for films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.
Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggsalbum in 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 as a result of the collaboration.
Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their previous albums and was criticized for its lack of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the band held auditions for the new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the 1986 album Fahrenheit.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by going through several old demos and tapes to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was a hit by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as drummer during the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the group.
