It uses dual-laser LiDAR -- similar to what you'd find in self-driving cars -- and can scan up to 32 feet by 270 degrees. This translates to more accurate mapping as well as faster response time and better cleaning accuracy.

It did a great job of removing pet hair on bare floors however, and in our tests it took in 89.5% of kitty litter, which puts it ahead of all but the most powerful robots we've tested.

The A4s Pro is expensive but it's an excellent purchase for those who want to be able to leave the house without hands so that they can get out and do other things or take care chores. The A4s Pro also offers a handy auto-cleaning mode that automatically increases suction power to deal with difficult spills and dirt, and it includes an electric ElectroWall that allows you to define boundaries where the robot is not allowed to enter.

This budget-friendly model from a well-known brand is the cheapest we've ever tested, and provides exceptional value for the money. Its navigation system is based on a very basic random pathing algorithm and it's not equipped to map rooms. This renders it less efficient than the other models on this list. However, it's still able to navigate under furniture and into corners and its mopping feature worked very well in our testing, picking up stray pet hair and other debris easily.

5. Shark iQ

Shark's iQ might not be as sturdy however it is superior at cleaning pet hair from all surfaces. It gets rid of floors with less efficiently and does a decent job on low-pile carpet, and it uses smart-pathing navigational technology for greater maneuverability. It can be positioned to a specific location, and comes with a range of advanced automation features including no-go zones and schedules. It also allows you to stop and resume cleaning which is ideal for homes with pets.

The self-cleaning brushroll eliminates knots and holds up to 30 days of dirt. It also has an array of angled side brushes that go deep into corners, and its multi-stage filtration system captures dust, dander and allergens for a cleaner air.

This robot vacuum feels solid and well-built. It has a smartphone app that enables you to change the settings of your vacuum and schedule cleaning times in advance.
