How To Explain Toto Asia To Your Mom
The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and operating in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, as opposed its "base" markets in Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words to ensure that the future generation could be able to read the words. However, many words were being replaced by foreign ones, like dui, which is Bengali for verandah.
Origins
Toto's early history which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's economic growth. In the first half of its existence, the company produced products to meet the demands of modern and contemporary urban housing. To accomplish this, it employed the first tunnel kiln in the nation that produced ceramics in continuous flow. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for greater efficiency and consistency.
In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began to expand outwards to profit from sales and new markets. It created the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other products of manufacturers to complement its own line of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy boosted sales and increased the firm's market share.

The company adopted a just-in-time approach to managing its supply chain, and it used the same methodology for its sales process. This resulted in a greater level of customer satisfaction.
Toto has continued to innovate in the toilet technology. Its latest toilet has an environmentally friendly, powerful tornado flush. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also produces bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers that have higher energy efficiency than typical models.
The first museum of the company opened in 2015 It has exhibits on Toto's seminal products and their evolution as well as its group companies (all related to ceramics) as well as the historical background of plumbing and products such as bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum houses bathrooms with a washbasin and other toilet innovations.
Before forming Toto the band, members of the group did session work for a variety of musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all performed on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also performed on albums by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
You would expect a group with a name such as Asia to be a prog band, but it is actually a fairly straight forward rock outfit. The group started out as a quartet and released two albums - 1979's self-titled debut album and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. But even though the band have a wide range of musical backgrounds, their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a huge blockbuster, but not without problems. Record companies placed the band on the place with the directive "give us an album that is a success or we'll take you off the market" and the pressure was on them to give it. Toto was able achieve this feat with the help of the smash hit "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience. Before forming the group, the members were session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has become the norm for '80s pop, and has influenced many contemporary artists.
This album starts off hard, with songs such as Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into your mind. However, the album also includes some more mellow, jazzy tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and distorted AOR, which should appear completely unnatural, but actually works extremely well.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes turned to the downside. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band had to go through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the wake of drug charges and the band continued as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It was not as popular as IV. However, the group was able to release a chart-topping album in the year 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. This album marked the end of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

Line-up
The album's third, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet arrangement of the previous albums. It was a stronger, more constant effort with an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. Its edgier sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's greater virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's work was more precise, sharper and less cloying than previously recorded performances.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded the band's Amsterdam live performance which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album was released a few months later, and the group went on an extensive world tour to promote it. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demo tapes and tapes to make an album that would feature songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a duo album titled Then and Now. It was the first album in the band's history that did not include any single song that had the word "A" in its title and it included one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and singer Williams suffered from a bad case of laryngitis which limited his singing capabilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia were in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be revived. This lineup, minus Howe who was working with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
