Nissan Qashqai Key Replacement Price: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
Perhaps you've lost the Nissan key fob or the device stopped working. Before you contact the dealership or get scared, retrace your steps to find out where you had it last.
Fortunately, it's easy to replace the battery on your key fob from Nissan. It may seem daunting at first, but you'll get the hang of it quickly.

Smart Keys Keys
The key fob that came with your Nissan is a vital component of the car's advanced keyless entry system. It communicates with the vehicle's electronic systems to unlock doors and start the engine. It also has an elegant design that makes it easy to keep in your pocket. Key fobs also offer features that make life easier, like an alarm that can be locked out, which ensures that you won't wander out of the vehicle with keys inside.
Smart keys operate wirelessly unlike previous models that required you to insert the key into an ignition slot in order to access your vehicle's internal systems. Nissan detects when you come close to your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This can include opening and locking the doors, raising or lowering the tailgate and even starting up the engine.
Certain smart key models have an unnoticed metal key to be used for valet parking. The key can be pulled from a release found on the side of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox before giving it to a valet. The Smart Key fob also features a charging pocket which can be used to recharge the battery when not in use.
If your Nissan's Intelligent Key fob isn't working as it should, you probably require replacing its batteries. The owner's manual will give the steps to change the batteries on most fobs.
Intelligent Key Fob
With the Nissan Intelligent Key Fob you can open your car doors and start its engine with a click of one button.
The KeyLab can also activate an array of presets that are based on your preferences such as changing the mirrors and seat to ensure maximum comfort. You can also control the music using your smartphone, so you'll never need to leave your car.
Intelligent Key Fob have a built-in antenna that sends out the signal when you enter your vehicle or press one of its buttons. When the vehicle receives the signal and the system is activated for locking and unlocking doors, starting the engine, or opening the trunk. If you want to test the fob, stand a distance away from your vehicle and press the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sounds, then you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.
Batteries are essential to operate Intelligent Key Fobs. If the battery in yours is depleted, our Parts Department can help you change it quickly and conveniently. To do this, take the key hidden in your key fob, then open its battery compartment. Remove the old battery, then put a new one in its place. Make sure that the positive side of the new one is facing the same direction as the old one did. Finally, close the battery compartment and return the hidden key to its hidden place inside the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start is a feature that allows drivers to cool or warm their vehicle from outside of the vehicle, if they are within the operating range. The ignition of the car is activated when a driver presses an appropriate button on the key fob or smartphone app. The remote start system can also activate climate control which allows the driver to set their preferred temperature. Some systems feature two-way communications, which lets the driver know what's happening inside their vehicle.
If your car's remote start function isn't working, the main reason is that the battery isn't working. The key fob is powered by a small battery which can be replaced. It lasts around two years. The battery replacement is simple, but you'll need to know the location of the key hidden on the Intelligent Key fob and how to access the battery compartment.
To do so simply flip your fob over and press the key release latch located on the back of the key pad. After the keypad has been opened remove the batteries and replace them with new ones. Make sure your new battery is the same size and configuration as the previous one. Make sure to replace the hidden key and rebuild the key fob properly before closing the case. Contact our parts department for assistance in replacing your Intelligent Key fob battery.
Lockout Protection
Lockout protection stops lockouts that are caused by impedance problems. A special module within the power control unit checks for the activity of the impedance relay, and then disables the output. This feature is available for vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system, or via the personalization menu.
Many fatal accidents have occurred when a machine started up when it was supposed to be completely off to prevent repairs or maintenance. These incidents are typically caused by energy that has not been released properly. Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) that ensures that machines are completely off until a person with authorization releases them, helps to prevent these types of accidents.
The LOTO system is comprised of a set of locks tags, locks, and other equipment that are used to isolate, secure or block the machine from an electrical source. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel are required to be trained in the use of these lockout/tag-out devices. These devices include, but aren't restricted to chains, locks and padlocks. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, containing the date and time of its application and the name of the person who is authorized to use it, and the reason for the lockout or tag-out (repair or maintenance, for example). It must be stated clearly that the devices cannot be removed until the LOTO procedure is complete.
