Say "Yes" To These 5 Private ADHD Titration Tips
Private ADHD Titration
There is a national shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems and an increased demand in the world.
Our service is private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.
Titration
A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This will include medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.
After your evaluation, you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or over the phone). Your doctor will explain the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This process may take several weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child's dosage until the right balance has been achieved. It is not uncommon to have to titrate as high as three different medications before you can find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. Parents must be involved in this titration process and keep a close eye on their child's behavior to let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing side effects.
If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medications. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual reviews are also required.
Follow-up appointments
Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place through a video call using zoom, although in certain cases it is possible to do an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).
In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration program. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues that you might be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is essential to examine any family history that may indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.
It is essential that you are honest and transparent with the clinician during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step because the wrong diagnosis can result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.
If you decide to be treated for ADHD We'll set up an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist who specializes in this area. This can be done in the wake of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment right away, or within two weeks if you want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.
If you aren't sure what you would prefer We suggest you speak to your GP before booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require a GP referral letter or not. We also suggest that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that once you are discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.
Medication
Medication is a key aspect of the treatment process for many people who are seeking a private ADHD diagnosis.
adhd titration service can be difficult to get a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
One way to get around this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that provides an assessment on your own and the titration. This will cut down your waiting time considerably and can be more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.
Once you've been diagnosed, your doctor will assess you to determine if require medication adjustment. You'll have to fill out forms that vary by doctor but the most frequent ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories going to your childhood and into adulthood. They will help your physician identify any conditions that could suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they're prescribed.
If you are being titrated, the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medications. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into consideration any medical conditions you may have. The process of titration can be lengthy and may require some additional appointments before you're stable on your dose.
Depending on the kind of medication you are taking, follow up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor checking to see if you are on the right medication, logging any side effects you've experienced and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You'll also have to attend a regular health check that may include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual check-up.
Some people might be satisfied with their medication and do not require discussing their titration further. However, for those who do need further discussions about their titration and treatment plan it's possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. In this scenario the titration is included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be provided through the private prescription. This can cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
