Omegle even has a blog devoted to the website. On the blog, people can find out what is new from the creator of the site. Two new additions to the Omegle site include text notification and a new iPhone application. Now people can chat with strangers by purchasing an app from Apple for Omegle.

A new website, Omegle, hopes to change this in a small manner at least. When one visits this site, one can start to chat with a total stranger immediately. You don't have to create a profile, think of a clever handle to use, or even to remember passwords so you can come back. Omegle allows users to chat with random strangers right away. If you don't like the conversation you are having, just disconnect and move onto the next random stranger.

You go to the Omegle website at Omegle and there you will be asked if you want to chat with a stranger by pressing the start to chat button. Almost immediately, you will find yourself connected to a stranger. Now you can chat away with different people and disconnect anytime you don't want to chat with a particular stranger anymore. The system will pair two people randomly for one-on-one private chatting. The site uses the two handles, 'stranger' and 'you' to connect people. It is a very simple system and very easy to use, no matter what your level of Internet experience may be.

The concept of an anonymous chat is not the first chat that was created with Omegle. There have been comparisons made back to the early 1990s. It is said to have similarities to a web site called 'A Nice Chat,' which was created before Omegle. There is the difference that in 'A Nice Chat' the users were prompted to use a nickname that others would see. While in Omegle users are just known by "you" and "stranger" making it more clear that the conversation is anonymous.

Starting 2010 there has been a new trend in the chatting behavior with the advent and the "mediatization" of a random chat service. However this service was not the first one to the market, actually another chat service was already there since 2009 Omegla.

But what distinguishes the new one was the use of webcams to allow users to randomly chat with each other without any registration or login; all what is required is just go to the website, accept to turn on the webcam and there you go.

The idea was fast to grow in popularity, it suffices to look at Google trends for the keyword "random chat" and note how the growth was exponential in a very short time. The scale as given by Google trends is between 10 and 20.
