5k is a decent enough amount, if you’re completely new I’d suggest starting with about 1. I in fact had first started off with just $100, and that too I had loaned from my mum, the account was also in her name, started with CMC Markets when I was 16. My first trade was more of an experimental one, was one of those things that you do just because everyone seems to be doing it. In 2 days my 100 had become 140 and man was I elated. The next few disappointments didn’t level up to the excitement of the first so I wasn’t bogged down by them. After about 5-6 months my stats started looking better. In hindsight if that first trade had not fetched me any profits I don’t think I would have gone any further with trading. So start small, these days there are a lot of good brokers with no or low balance requirements. The ones I’m using currently are Fxview and IC Markets besides CMC Markets. Yes, still using it because of that first trade :)
