Hey folks, Here’s my review of Rifagut 550 mg, a stronger Rifaximin formulation widely used for chronic and recurrent gut issues.

What Is Rifagut 550 mg?

Rifagut 550 mg contains Rifaximin 550 mg, usually recommended for:

  • IBS-D (long-term management)
  • Recurrent SIBO
  • Prevention of hepatic encephalopathy in liver patients
  • Chronic digestive imbalance

This is considered the higher, more intensive dose.

Why I Used It

I had recurring digestive symptoms even after completing lower doses of Rifaximin. My doctor decided to step up to Rifagut 550 mg.

My Experience

  • Major reduction in bloating
  • Bowel movements became regular
  • Much less abdominal discomfort
  • No systemic side effects

This dose seemed more effective when symptoms were stubborn.

Possible Side Effects (What I Noticed)

Very mild:

  • Slight dizziness for a few minutes
  • Mild headache
  • Tired feeling on Day 1–2
  • But overall, very tolerable.

Who Might Benefit

From what I’ve seen:

  • People with persistent IBS-D
  • Those with recurrent SIBO
  • Liver patients who need gut bacteria under control

Anyone who didn’t fully improve with 200–400 mg doses

Final Thoughts

Rifagut 550 mg is a stronger and more effective option if your digestive issues keep coming back. It worked noticeably better for me than the lower strengths.

Has anyone else here tried the 550 mg version?
