Hi, I think that it might be hard to select the one that will best respond to your needs. Here is the list of features to help you pick up your best 4 season tent 8 person for camping I have already purchased one tent there and should say it works pretty well for my family. Cheers
Too many variables to give a good answer. Is the friend going alone? Is the weight of the tent going to be a factor (hiking, cycling, biking in a car etc.).? Is it wild camping or on a campsite?
But here are some general rules, go for a quality tent, nothing more miserable than a leaky tent in the rain. Get a size larger than you think you need, single person tents are designed for midgets. Get a tent you can put up on you own and practice doing it in the dark, yes, you will have to do that, check the tent is waterproof (see above). Not strictly part of the tent but a good sleeping bag is worth diamonds.
