I’ve been reading a lot about edge computing lately and started wondering if there’s a way this technology could improve Minecraft server performance, especially in multiplayer environments. For those who might not be familiar, edge computing refers to processing data closer to where it’s generated (like on local servers or devices) rather than relying solely on centralized data centers.
Here are a few things I’m curious about:
Reduced Latency: By distributing server workloads to edge locations closer to players, could we reduce lag and improve real-time responsiveness, especially for large servers or custom worlds?
Improved Load Balancing: Could edge computing allow Minecraft servers to offload certain tasks (like world generation or chunk loading) to multiple edge devices to balance the load and prevent server crashes or performance dips?
