I’ve been on and off trying to get sober for a while, and I keep hearing people talk about how Alcoholics Anonymous changed their lives. I went to a couple of meetings a few years back and didn’t really click with anyone, so I kind of gave up on it. But recently I’ve been thinking maybe I didn’t give it a fair shot.
I stumbled across this site the other night: https://soberspeak.com/category/alcoholics-anonymous/ and ended up listening to a few of the stories. Hearing people talk so honestly about their experience with AA made me realize how different everyone’s journey is. It kind of made me wonder if maybe I just didn’t find the right group the first time.
I’m curious, for those of you who found support through AA, was it an instant connection, or did it take going to different meetings to find your people? Also, how did you push through those awkward early stages when you didn’t know anyone and felt super out of place?
Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for others.
