Consult a set of figures or charts provided by the manufacturer based on the kind of gearing to establish the Gearbox Service factor (worm, spiral bevel, helical, etc.). These tables describe a variety of applications (conveyors, cranes, winders, saws, blowers, and so on), each with (usually) three levels of service duty for the gearbox: zero to three hours per day, three to ten hours per day, and more than ten hours per day. A suggested service factor is assigned to each of these application-service duty combinations.
