The Benefits of a MERV 13 Air Purifier Filter

A MERV 13 filter is a good choice if you're concerned about indoor air quality. This type of filter is effective in capturing more than 97% of particles three to ten microns in size. It's the only type of filter that can effectively filter out particles down to a single micron. It is recommended by OSHA, ASHRAE, and the CDC. To learn more about MERV filters, read our article about the benefits of a MERV 13 filter. MERV 13 filter captures more than 97% of particles between 3 and 10 microns in diameter

A MERV 13 filter can effectively trap 50% of particles 0.3 to one micron in size. The MERV 13 filter will also catch up to 97% of particles 3 to 10 microns in diameter. By comparison, a human hair is 70 microns in diameter and most dust particles are 5 microns or less. Thus, an M13 filter will protect you and your family from harmful airborne diseases.

MERV ratings range from one to twenty. The chart below helps you select the most appropriate filter for your needs. MERV ratings are based on standards set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, or ASHRAE. The higher the MERV, the more efficient the filter will be in capturing airborne particulates and pollutants. It is the only filter that has been tested to effectively filter out particles smaller than one micron

In an effort to combat a growing health epidemic, the MERV 13 air purifier filter has been developed. It has been proven to filter out particles as small as one micron. These particles are so small that they often fly under the immune system, causing chronic lung conditions. In addition, sub-micron particles can remain in the air for days before they can be removed.

The MERV rating is based on the pressure drop that a particle experiences at the face of the air filter. A filter with a lower MERV will have a higher pressure drop than one with a high MERV. The MERV rating is the most important factor in choosing a suitable air filter. Moreover, a higher MERV number means a better filter. It is recommended by CDC, OSHA and ASHRAE

A typical office building uses at least three air exchanges per hour (ACH) and requires a minimum MERV 13 filter. This filter is 85% effective at trapping particles. An even better option is a high-efficiency particulate air filter, or HEPA filter. These air filters trap even more particles, such as viruses and bacteria. OSHA, CDC and ASHRAE recommend a 20x20x1 air filter merv 13 for most offices and buildings.

When choosing an air filter, make sure that it has the right rating. The CDC and OSHA recommend a MERV 13 filter or higher for indoor air pollution control. If the HVAC system isn't equipped with this filter, it won't capture all of the viruses in the air. The MERV 13 filter is particularly effective at capturing virus particles and other irritants. In addition to its efficiency, MERV 13 filters are recommended by ASHRAE and OSHA. If you have any doubts about which one is the right one for your building, don't hesitate to contact your local authorities.
