She explained that the ancient loch dwellers kept a variety of familiar livestock animals, while cultivating crops such as emmer, spelt and barley. They grew plants such as flax to make ropes and textiles and used opium poppy seeds and other plants for medicinal purposes. "Weeds such as stinging nettles and fat hen were common pot herbs," she added.
