Rooibos tea has a sensory wheel like wine and coffee. The listing means that only rooibos from the South African region can use the red and yellow "protected designation of origin" (PDO) logo of the European Union.

This status protects consumers from counterfeit teas labeled as Roi Bos. It should also result in a special price set for tea, which will benefit farmers. It was the first African dish to be added to the special list.
