Solo Battles became my preferred mode, since it allowed me to play short games with the computer, while experiencing ever-increasing difficulty with Competitive settings. Within a few weeks, I'd reached a point where I was able beat my opponent on Pro and then win at All-Pro but I do struggle on All-Madden. The online game is obviously more challenging if you're against a human opponent, but people are also inclined to make mistakes and irritability which computers don't have.
The result was my first win of the season this week, winning 18-14 against a teammate who I'd guess was similar to my own - possibly a bit better. As alluded to above However, they had a lack of the patience to play: they wouldn't ever punt the ball, even on fourth-and-long. And they were a bit erratic in their decisions. In all honesty I was certain that I'd be sunk to a halt when they succeeded with an onside kick from the initial kick-off. I eventually conceded a touchdown, however, I refused to give up.
I managed to score the touchdown as well as a two-point conversion on my first drive and I then scored one field goal towards the halfway point which gave me an 11-6 advantage at the half. I began the second half with another touchdown, and after that I focused on not allowing any major plays. Although I gave up an extra touchdown and a two point conversion in the second half, I was able to chew enough clock to see out the game, being aware that my opponent would require an end-of-game touchdown in their final game.
