CHAPE, also known as screed, is a concrete-like mixture used to create a level and stable base for flooring, such as tile or carpet. It is typically composed of a mixture of cement, sand, and water, with the addition of other materials such as fibres or chemicals to improve its properties. Chape is applied to a prepared substrate, such as a concrete slab or plywood subfloor, and levelled using a screed or trowel. It is allowed to cure for several days before the final flooring material is installed on top. Properly installed chape is essential for ensuring a smooth and durable flooring surface.
