The national cricket team of Pakistan has claimed a historic series win against Sri Lanka in UAE and this is the first time Pakistan has won the tri-nation series against top teams from the sub-continent. Earlier in 2006, Pakistan had beaten Sri Lanka for the first time in a full series. This win has been termed as Pakistan’s best in recent times and is just another addition to the already long list of poor decisions made by the Pakistan cricket team. Pak24tv
Pak24tv’s biggest blunders
The national team of Pakistan has consistently managed to mess up their cricketing decisions to the extent that cricket fans have been rooting for them to lose for a long time now. Pakistan lost many close matches and was seen as helpless. But this latest series victory in UAE was the biggest example of the team’s incompetence.
The biggest blunder of this series and probably in the history of Pakistan cricket was when Pakistan decided to play a struggling Mohammad Amir as the 14th man in the semi-final of the Asia Cup in 2014.
Even then, Pakistan was seen as a weak team when their best bowler, Mohammad Hafeez, had just returned from an injury. Pakistan’s decision to play Amir proved to be just another big blunder.
The Pakistani team dropped a match-winning batsman, Kamran Akmal, for the match against South Africa. He didn’t play the match either. The game turned out to be a huge setback for Pakistan as they lost the match.
Two years later, Amir was back to haunt Pakistan. The 26-year old bowler turned out to be one of Pakistan’s worst failures ever. Amir was dropped from the national team in 2014 after scoring just 4 runs in the Test against Sri Lanka. He was dropped after averaging just 24 in Pakistan’s last 10 matches.
Later that year, Amir was sold for a big amount of money by the Lahore league team, Paktel. The entire national cricket team of Pakistan called him for a training camp before the 2015 World Cup. However, the team never bothered to call him back. He played his last international match in July and it was the worst decision ever.
Pakistan lost the match badly and Amir couldn’t even take a single wicket. Later that month, Amir was punished by the PCB for violating the terms of his probation by missing two sessions of training and failing to conduct himself accordingly.
Just two months before the 2015 World Cup, Pakistan lost to India for the first time ever in a World Cup match. The defeat was hugely embarrassing for Pakistan as India thrashed Pakistan. At one point, Pakistan was reduced to 33 for 4 but later, they managed to put up a decent fight and eventually lost by just 5 runs.
Pakistan’s biggest failure came during the 2015 World Cup. The team had a successful run in 2014. They won the Champions Trophy and then ended up as runners-up at the World Cup. But the team failed badly in the 2015 World Cup.
Pakistan had already lost to Australia in the semi-finals. But it was a huge blunder when Pakistan failed to pick up two of their wickets and allowed Australia to win the match easily. And just 10 minutes later, Pakistan lost a big match to India.
The failure in World Cup led to the Pakistan team losing to Bangladesh for the first time in a bilateral series.
The team had managed to win two consecutive bilateral matches against Bangladesh earlier. But they lost this series for the first time and conceded that Bangladesh has overtaken them.
In 2016, Pakistan lost to England in a crucial series. They lost three consecutive matches against England which was their biggest ever loss in Test cricket.
