TDS is a method by which the government is fully authorized to collect taxes from its constituents. To deter cash payments, the finance minister added Section 194N to the Union Budget 2019 to implement tax deduction at source, or TDS on cash withdrawals over Rs 1 crore. When paying a person in cash from their bank account, the payer must deduct tax on any amount above Rs 1 crore.
