Remove the key fob's cover for the battery compartment (A). By using a flat-head screwdriver a thumb nail, push the cover upwards, then replace the CR2025.
Dead Coin Battery
If your key fob stopped working but you're not in a position to reprogram it using an entirely new code, the most likely cause is a dead battery in the coin. Replacing this should get it up and running and running again. You can do it yourself in less than 10 minutes.
Start by opening the key by removing the rings made of metal. There's a simple clip-on lid, that you can open with your nail. The old battery is then pulled through the hole in the middle. Note: If you change the battery in a wrong way, or using a battery that's not suitable, it can cause damage to the remote. Always replace the battery with one that has the same size, voltage and specification as the original.
If your key device was submerged in water you might also have to clean the chip prior to replacing the battery. It's especially important if it was dropped into the ocean or in soapy water. It is essential to take care of this as soon as you can, since water can cause damage to the electronic chip of your key fob.
Worn Buttons
Seat Ibiza keys stop working most often due to the battery that powers the coin is dead. It is a simple fix and only takes a few minutes. The key fob can also stop working if the buttons have worn out. This is a simple fix that requires you to swap the old key shell with a new one.
It's important to know that the button cell battery must be replaced properly or damage can occur to the key fob. It is recommended that you always utilize a brand new battery that is the same voltage, size and specifications. It's also important that the side of the new battery is directed upwards.
Rubber seals are designed to protect the key fob. However submerging the key fob in water can cause the seals to break and harm the electronic chip inside. This happens most often when you accidentally drop your key fob into the pool or leave it in the rain. If your key fob does not work after replacing it or reprogramming it, the receiver module may be defective.
Water Damage
Rubber seals on the key fob stop water from getting to the chip. This doesn't stop occasional splash. If you've survived a washing cycle or an ocean swim your chip might be damaged.
This can be resolved by removing the battery, and cleaning the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Dry it completely and then put it back. If the chip is damaged, it must be replaced with a new one.
If your key fob doesn't work after changing the battery or programming, there could be a problem with the receiver module. This is the part of the car that receives signals from the key fob and transmits signals to the key ignition system. If you have an extra key fob you can test it. The central locking should turn on and the ignition system light should be lit. If this doesn't happen then the receiver module is faulty. This is a costly fix but can be rectified by an expert at your local garage.
Radio Interference
The receiver module inside your key could be causing interference. It can be fixed by replacing the key with the new receiver module made by Seat parts.
To replace the battery, simply flip out the key part and then using your thumb nail or screwdriver with a flat head, gently pull upwards the key fob's compartment cover. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a brand new battery, ensuring that the polarity is correct. You can also use a standard key with the transponder chip which was transferred from the worn or damaged key. This can be coded, and cut to fit your vehicle as needed.
Faulty Receiver Module
The receiver module is the component inside the key fob which transmits the radio signals to the car. If the fob ceases to function it could be because the module has failed. This can be identified with an OBDII scan tool or by calling the dealer.
Other devices that operate on the same frequency can interfere with the remote keyless entry system. This includes wireless phone transmitters, electronic devices, and even some household appliances.
If the key fob is exposed clean tap water, it could be possible to clean the chip with paper towels and isopropyl alcohol. If the key fob has been submerged in soapy or salty water or left for a long period of time on a wet surface, it is likely to be damaged and will need to be replaced.
To change the battery, you can use a small screwdriver with a flat head or a fingernail, to pry open the compartment for the button cell batteries (B). Remove the old battery, and replace it with the new CR2025, making sure that the "+" polarity of the battery is directed upwards.
