However, there was another figure, much less publicized by the auction house, which revealed that, while today’s market is more enthusiastic than ever, it is also much more selective. More interesting than the movement, which is all well and good at this price point, is the lack of text on the case back. Dietrich has actually moved all of the minimal engravings to the flat segment between the lugs, leaving the entire caseback unadorned and, presumably, ready for a customized engraving.But that's not the weirdest part of the all-new 5373P-001. No, sir. The most unexpected element here is that the 5373P-001 actually features a so-called "destro" orientation best suited for left-handed collectors. In other words, the movement has been reversed so that the crown and chronograph pushers now reside on the nine o'clock left side of the case instead of their traditional placement on the right side around three o'clock.Both are massive, overbuilt technical achievements that might have more in common with a submarine than a wristwatch. In many ways, I think these two watches serve as trophies for what Omega and Rolex have accomplished in terms of dive watch iconography, water resistance (and the ability to test it), and ocean exploration (both past and present).
In terms of overall elegance, I think this watch is probably the least successful of the three. There is a lot going on down at the bottom of the dial and the case is 39mm across and 11.8mm thick, giving it the chunkiest profile as well.
