Having multiple email addresses can be annoying, but that doesn't mean you have to check multiple accounts every day to keep track of your emails. You can automatically forward copies of emails from one address to another, reply to a different account, and see them as sent from the original account. This tutorial will show you how to send AOL email to Gmail, enter AOL contacts, and more.

AOL has been around for decades and still offers email services, if not much more. As you gradually switch from AOL to Gmail, it is best to do things slowly until you find everyone in AOL is emailing you. Part of this relay is sending email.

When you market an email, you configure an email account to make a digital copy of an email and automatically send that copy to another email account. The original email will remain in your inbox and a copy will be sent wherever you want. It's a quick, free, and easy way to transfer email accounts or check multiple emails from one place.

Forward AOL mail to Gmail

This tutorial explains how to market your AOL mailbox for Gmail, but you can do the same for most other email accounts. Sending email to Gmail is done in the same steps, you just need to fill in the details of the different source email accounts. The rest should be exactly the same.

  1. Log into Gmail.
  2. Select the gear icon on the right, then select Accounts & Import.
  3. Select Check Email from Other Accounts and add an email account.
  4. Enter your AOL email address in the pop-up window and click Next.
  5. Check your email server details and enter your AOL password when prompted. To store copies with AOL, select "Leave a copy of the messages retrieved on the server."
  6. Select Add Account.

This is enough for all AOL email to be forwarded to Gmail. As long as Gmail has access to AOL mail servers, emails should appear immediately. Optionally, you can use the "Classify Incoming Messages" option in step 6. In the "Keep a copy of the recovered messages on the server" section, you should see the "Classify incoming messages" option. If your inbox is busy, adding tags can make it easier for you to see promoted emails in Gmail. This is completely optional, but useful if you receive a lot of email. Import contacts and messages from AOL to Gmail Now that the Marketplace is set up, you can also import your existing contacts and inboxes from AOL into Gmail.

  1. Log into Gmail.
  2. Select the gear icon on the right, then select Accounts & Import.
  3. Select Import email and contacts from the hub In the pop-up window, add your AOL email address and click Next.
  4. Enter your AOL password in the field so that Gmail can access your contacts.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Select either or both, Import Contacts and Import Email.
  7. Select Start Import and then OK.

The import process will take some time depending on how busy your email servers are and how many contacts and emails you have. Once you've done this, you should now have an exact copy of your AOL contacts and your Gmail inbox.

Send emails from Gmail with your AOL address Sending email from your AOL address during the migration can be easier than using Gmail. This is a useful feature, which means that you only need to sign in to one email account to send email from multiple accounts. Set it up like this:

  1. Log into Gmail.
  2. Select the gear icon on the right, then select Accounts & Import.
  3. Select Add Another Email Address from the Send Mail As row.
  4. Enter your AOL email address in the pop-up box.
  5. Choose the next step and send the confirmation.
  6. Sign in to your AOL address and check your Gmail emails.
  7. In Gmail, open a new email and select your AOL address in the From field.

When sending an email, you can now enter a Gmail or AOL address that will appear on the From page. The recipients can then react to what's inside. Reply to AOL means the reply will be automatically sent to Gmail. If you'd like, you can go back to Accounts and Import, select Send Email As, and choose AOL as the default and set it to Always On. This can confuse anyone so I don't recommend it!
