In 2020, the government began a national gas expansion programme to drive domestic commercial use of compressed natural gas as the fuel of choice for transport and LPG as the clean source for domestic and industrial energy. The Central Bank of Nigeria, meanwhile, introduced an intervention fund worth 250 billion Nigerian naira ($610m/£450m) to drive investment in the natural gas value chain by providing loans to players in the sector.
