Kurt Westergard Danish cartoonist famous for his caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. has sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. Died at the age of 86

The family confirmed to Denmark's BerlingskeSLOTXO yesterday (July 18) that the long-ill Vestergard had bid farewell to the world in slumber.

Westerguard owns 12 cartoon drawings published in newspapers. Jyllands-Posten, 'The Face of Muhammad', ignited violent protests from Islamists.

In the early days of publication Nobody seemed to care about those pictures. but two weeks later Protests also took place in Copenhagen. This was followed by a protest letter from the Muslim ambassador.

Dissatisfaction with the prophet's cartoon continues to intensify. It became an anti-Danish movement in the Muslim world in February 2006 and led to the firing of a magazine editor. Westerguard works as a cartoonist for newspapers. Jyllands-Posten since the mid-1980s and spent his later life in a safe house under police supervision. Like many of his colleagues involved in caricatures of the Prophet.

In early 2010, Danish police arrested a 28-year-old Somali man who was killed with a Westerguard knife in his home.
