Select a Broker that is well regulated in at least 1 or more of the following jurisdictions: FCA(UK), ASIC(Australia), BaFin(Germany), JFSA(Japan), NFA/CFTC(USA), and MAS(Singapore). NOTE: if the broker has several different companies under one group, ensure that the company name in which they create your account is under one of the above regulatory bodies! Many companies pull this disgusting trick on traders who live in different countries outside of the above jurisdictions I mentioned in an effort to rip you guys off. Be warned!! Ask them! Or read your account details and make sure the branch they put you is one of the countries that has proper regulation!
