How To Tell If You're In The Mood To Private ADHD Titration
Private ADHD Titration
There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increased global demand.
Our service can offer private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.
Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.
After your evaluation, you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or over the phone). Your physician will explain to you the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating dosage to ensure the balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This process could take several weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child's dosage until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to have to adjust up to three different medications before you can find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.
If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual exams are also required.
Follow-up
www.iampsychiatry.comAfter the evaluation is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done through a zoom video call. However, in some circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).
In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options we have and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration program. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and a discussion around any negative side effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.
The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any issues with your relationships that you may be having or other mental health problems that you may be experiencing. This is because ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is important to look into any family history that might indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.
During this assessment it is essential that you are truthful and honest with your doctor who will be using the information you provide to determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step, as a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.
If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD we'll schedule a follow-up appointment with a psychiatrist who specializes in this field. This can be scheduled in the wake of your diagnosis if are keen to begin treatment right away or within two weeks if would like more time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives available to you.
If you're not sure what your preference is it is recommended that you talk to your GP before booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also suggest to check if your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the prescription for medication.
Medication
For many people who want an individual diagnosis of ADHD treatment is an important aspect of their journey. Getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and lengthy. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.
One way to get around this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means you can select an organization that offers a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time considerably and can be more convenient when you are working and have a busy schedule.
After you've been referred through this route your chosen doctor will evaluate you and determine whether or not you're required to be titrated on medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are factors that could mean you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications, if they have been prescribed.
If you are being titrated on medication, it will typically include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be examined and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration process can be long and could require some additional appointments before you're stable on your dose.
The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and amount of medication you're taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician making sure that you are taking the correct medication, logging any side effects you've experienced, and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're in a safe dosage. You will also be required to attend a regular health check which can include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight as well as an annual check-up.
For some, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't require any further discussion on their titration. If you're required to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan further it is possible that you'll be sent to the private clinic who made your initial assessment. In this scenario, the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will be administered via the private prescription. This may cost more than a prescription from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
