French-door refrigerators blend functionality and form. They feature stylish double doors that show an enormous fridge on top, and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out due to their special features, such as door-to-door dispensers and more expensive Ice makers.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. They weighed the capacity of storage, layout and energy efficiency as well as other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name implies that the GE Profile series is targeted at the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It features a large freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also holds a lot of frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.

The fridge comes with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is typical for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It also has an adequate-sized icemaker in the left door, but it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments for the perfect storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. Its LED lighting is a nice feature, and the in-door storage bins have the third shelf, which folds up beneath itself to make it possible to store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls so you can set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their textured plastic coatings a bit rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the full suite of features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price, including Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices allows you to control your fridge from anywhere in world, and offers numerous options for customization. It also sends you notifications when a door is left open, when the fridge or freezer is in need of defrosting, and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill it's an option in other GE fridges that allow you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to disperse at a time. It does offer an indicator on the fridge's display to display how much water you have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors for preserving food items. The Ice maker is among the top we've tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of Ice with low use of water. This fridge is perfect for a small household or a kitchenette that wants an elegant design and top of the highest quality food preservation.

This fridge was rated the best in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to prevent freezing burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and remained at that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch has a reputation for high-end appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive, but offers great features and functionality at a reasonable cost.

It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. It is possible to be creative with tall items because the fridge is limited in shelf space. The shelves are not resistant to spills and are easily stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage in the frame's compact size. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features an ordinary French door layout, with two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You'll also find a full width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

french style fridge freezers uk of the best things about this refrigerator is that its ice maker is inside the freezer, making it easy to move frozen ice to the fridge to be used when it is needed. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that can help you to organize the place of items. It has a large bin for storing frozen food and a separate container for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It lets you manage the refrigerator's temperature, lighting, and more via your smartphone. It's a good method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. This fridge took longer to chill food and defrost it than other models we tested. This is probably due to its bigger capacity.

The other issue we have with the door of this refrigerator. They have sunken handles on the front, which allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to steer closed without slamming them. It would have been better if they had a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a little less than the most expensive counter depth refrigerator that comes with an icemaker, which makes it a desirable option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good option when you're looking for a French door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It's a basic refrigerator that might not be as appealing as some of its competitors however it has enough features to make it a suitable option. Its most important feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a large ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, meaning you can keep food items that require special attention. You can adjust this feature by using an adjustable slider that is located just outside of the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

In my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures were fairly consistent across all areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the fridge didn't differ much from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance however it doesn't be among the top in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with an intelligent thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tested.
