10 Things Everybody Has To Say About Twilight Princess Twilight Princess Game Review

The most sombre and dark of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the final limits on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more unsettling than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs, nor effeminate Pirates.

Link is pulled into a parallel dimension known as Twilight Realm, where he takes the form of an Hylian and a wolf while being guided by Midna.

Gameplay

The thirteenth installment of The Legend of Zelda is Twilight Princess. It was released on the Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in 2006. The game was praised by critics and gave it excellent scores in a variety of publications, including 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. Many consider it to be the best game in the franchise and the most viewed Zelda title on the PAL market.

Twilight Princess features naturalistic, stylized graphics style similar to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphics engine. It is the first game in the series with the full directional control scheme, rather than having a fixed perspective like previous games. This modification was made to accommodate the Wii console, which has an interface that is based on pointing. The GameCube version of the game comes with a section in the back that has mirror-image maps for those who prefer the fixed view.

Link transforms into a wolf when he enters the Twilight Realm. He also encounters Midna, an enigmatic creature. She reveals to Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group shadow beasts led the evil sorcerer Zant. She further explains that she is the true ruler of Twili, but was usurped and cursed to her present form by Zant.

A short cutscene shows the soldiers being slain by shadow beasts after Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle. Link and Midna then escape the castle through an entrance tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.

In the Twilight Realm, Link can use his wolf form to move around more freely in the world. Link can also use his senses to navigate around the world. For instance, he could detect the spirits of deceased soldiers and other animals in the distance. Link can also pull grass from specific patches and whistle using it to summon an animal, such as an Hawk or Epona. Alternatively, Link can howl near these patches to summon the same animal.

Like earlier Zelda games music plays a major role in Twilight Princess. Link can play instruments that are musical like the flute or harp, to draw and summon different animals. He can also use his voice to command the wolf's form. Additionally, he can use his compass to guide him around the world and keep him from getting lost.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda series is full of colorful characters that leave an unforgettable impression on players. From hands coming out of toilets to pirate sailors traversing vast oceans, these wacky and unique characters are the essence of the game. Twilight Princess continues in the tradition of the previous games, introducing an array of memorable characters.

Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story, who are not only interesting but also believable. It's an important step forward that so many of these NPCs aren't just there as victims, but actually have a role to play in the story. NPCs such as Rusl who explains how the forest has become more dangerous and kidnaps children, or Ordon villager who snoop around as wolves while the children are being kidnapped, all have unique personalities that feel authentic.

Other notable characters include Iza who manages the Boat Rental Caf in Lanayru Province and Iza's rapid ride, Louise Telma’s cat, who aids Wolf Link find a secret access point to the castle through her bar and sewer system, as well as Faron his spirit is the one who guides Link to the Forest Temple in Eldin Province. The two team members defeat the Fused Shadow possessed by Diababa and gains the first Tear of Light.

Midna, the princess of the Twilight Realm, is also one of the most intriguing characters in the game. She can switch between wolf and human forms and possesses a piece of the Triforce of Wisdom. She befriends Link and tells him about her experience in the twilight and how she defeated Zant, the King of Twilight.

Zant is the evil sorcerer who controls the Twilight Realm. He possesses the second part of the Triforce of Wisdom. He was exiled to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for stealing their land and enslaving people. Midna removes Zant's power, which allows him to change into his human form whenever needed.

The game also has an improved horse called Epona that can be mounted in Hylian and wolf forms. Link can whistle near specific patches of grass to summon the animal. (similar to Majora’s Mask). The player can name the horse and customize the horse, making Twilight Princess the first time in the series that a player can personalize their own horse.

Theme

Music is one of the most important parts of any Zelda game, and it can make a place feel expansive exciting, epic, and thrilling. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is criticized as being sporadic and inconsistent that doesn't capture certain emotional moments. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask and other games have captivating music that explode at the right moment to create a sense of majestic and eerie.

Toru Minegishi and Asuka Ohta were responsible for the music and sound design in Twilight Princess, with Koji Kondo as the composer in charge for the first time since Wind Waker. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a bold departure from the traditional approach to the franchise with a minimalist approach to the melody and arrangement. Most field and dungeon music begins with a single instrument, creating a mysterious and atmospheric ambiance for the player. Midna's Lament, for example utilizes a simple keyboard to create a sense of sadness for the player.

The most popular examples are dungeon themes with a dull atmosphere. This is particularly evident in Twilight Realm, which has an eerie soundscape that could be heard in an original David Lynch movie. The dark and unsettling quality of this track is accentuated by the lack of recognisable melodies and the traditional arrangement with dreary drones and bizarre patterns intertwining to create a dark and bleak sound.

A more joyful and uplifting song is Link's hometown theme, "Faron Woods." This tune uses various soft sounds and stringed instruments that create an idyllic feeling of security and peace for the player. The song also contains an enigmatic reference to the franchise's most well-known scene, since it has a riff that is very similar to the famous tune that plays at the beginning of Ocarina of Time.

Twilight Princess also has dynamic songs that change according to the player's whereabouts, what they are doing and what's happening. For instance the Hyrule Castle Town theme has various versions for each part of the town, with Central Square having a more boisterous and full version of the tune. These variations add a wonderful touch to the world of Hyrule and add a sense of depth and immersion.

They enter the Forest Temple, battle Diababa and get the first Fused Shadow. Faron then informs them of their next destination, which is the Eldin Province in the west (Wii) or east (GCN).

At the Lakebed Temple in Lanayru, Midna transports Link to an erupting rock and uses her power to melt the ice in the bottom of Lake Hylia. Rutela's spirit, the recently deceased Zora queen, appears to Link and tells Link that he must visit the Lakebed Temple if he wants to access the treasure of the Zora.

Returning from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask The horse Epona can again be ridden in Twilight Princess. In contrast to the set name used in the two previous games, Link can now decide the horse's name himself.

Midna and Link can retrieve the remaining Mirror Shards once they arrive in the Twilight Realm. The Sages inform Midna that she is the true ruler of the Twili. She was a pawn by the monarchy and had turned to an ego-driven god. The Sages inform them that they can only be defeated by Ganondorf by bringing him to light and break the pact made between the Twilight kingdom and Hyrule kingdom.
