Are Kids Beds Bunk The Greatest Thing There Ever Was?
Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds add drama to kids' rooms and provide a sense of adventure. To make bunks more appealing to children, Ms. Keenan often includes a shelf to store books or a reading lamp in each sleeping nook.
A lot of our kids' beds can be converted into two complete twin beds ideal if you are planning to have your children move to their own bedrooms at some point. Pick from finishes like brushed white, gray and rich walnut.
Ladders and Stairs
You can choose between stairs and ladders when choosing bunk beds for children. Ladders can be installed easily and are less expensive. They also provide an easy way to get into the top bunk bed. They are also considered to be safer than stairs, since they have a bigger surface for children to walk on and have a built-in handrail. They also have grooves in the steps which prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.
If you prefer the look and design of stairs, they may be a more elegant addition to your bunk bed. Staircases are also ideal for rooms that are small on space, as they don't extend into the space as ladders do. They can be constructed from metal or wood and are able to match the wide variety of bedroom styles. Some staircases come with storage drawers that are an excellent way to expand the space of bunk beds.
Another thing to take into consideration when deciding between stairs and a ladder is the age of your child. It is recommended that children less than 6 years old not sleep on the top bunk. Children older than 6 years old who can climb vertically might prefer stairs than a ladder. Additionally when you're thinking of using your bunk bed as an extra bed for children or adults who have mobility issues, stairs are the preferred option.
A straight staircase that runs along the side of the bunk requires a minimum of 95" of space on each side. If you do not have enough space, you can opt for the u-shaped stairs that doesn't require as much space however it still allows you to reach the top bunk in a safe and securely. Certain beds let you remove the stairs when they are not in use. This reduces the footprint of the bed, making it more versatile for multipurpose spaces. You can also find staircases that connect to the bottom of the bed, which eliminates the requirement for a separate handrail, and makes it easier for children to climb up and down.
Guard Rails
Guard rails allow kids to climb in and out of their beds independently and provide them with an experience of independence and security. They must be set in a proper way to ensure there aren't any gaps or loosening between the guardrails and the bed's frame. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer when installing guard rails and make sure to check them regularly to ensure they are not loose or have holes that could cause trapping.
One of the most important safety considerations for bunk beds is to keep them free from electrical devices and any other objects that could be projectiles if your children play or sleep. Be sure to place bunks away from windows, as they could cause a risk of falling if kids get up on the top of the bed.
A safety feature you may think about is a night light for the ladder. this can help illuminate the path up and down in case children wake at night to go to the bathroom, or wake up during a storm and need to make their way out of their room safely.
A safety net could be put up on top of the bunk to prevent children from falling off while they're sleeping or playing. This is a great idea especially for older children who are more likely to sleep on the top bunk.
The guardrails should be secured to the bunk beds and cannot be removed without tools. Openings in the guardrails above the mattress foundation shall not be larger than 3.5 inches to prevent entrapment and strangulation. The wedge block is placed in Figure 1 in each of the openings in the topmost guardrail member and above the mattress foundation. Then apply a 33-lbf (147-N) force in a direction that is perpendicular to the plane of the larger end of the block and maintain it for a period of 1 minute.
It is also recommended to teach youngsters not to hang things on the guardrails or ladder for example, such as clothing, belts and sports equipment; instead a rack for clothes should be used to ensure that the objects aren't a strangulation risk for your child(ren). Also, ensure that more than one child should not sleep on the top floor of the bunk as this could create a dangerous imbalance which may result in falling.
Mattresses
Be aware of the age of your child and their size when selecting a mattress to fit a bunk bed. A bunk mattress will last for at least eight years, or until siblings are no longer sharing a bedroom So, you'll want to choose a mattress that is designed to adapt to the needs of your child, while providing sufficient support as they grow older.
There are many options for bunk mattress sizes. They are usually twin or full size. If your child is suffering from allergies or asthma choose an hypoallergenic mattress with a dust-mite barrier as well as a moisture-wicking cover. Mattresses with an antimicrobial coating will shield the foam from harmful bacteria and germs.
The comfort of your mattress is also important. Kids generally weigh less than adults, so they require mattresses that feel firm but is also comfortable. Many hybrid and latex mattresses have one side that is firm and the other soft side to accommodate both children's needs.
Memory foam mattresses are a good choice for children, but we wouldn't recommend them because they tend not to cool properly and could be a strain on the spines of young children. You should consider a hybrid or a latex mattress instead, which will provide solid support and cooling infusions to ensure your child or guest is resting cool and comfortable.
Low-profile mattresses are typically the ideal choice for bunk beds for children. They are designed to be slimmer than standard mattresses and increase safety rail height for the top bunk. They also reduce "filler" materials to provide premium quality in a slim design.
If your child would like to try a mattress that's thicker than a regular mattress, think about an hybrid or innerspring model with comfort layers on the top that can be removed or replaced as your child grows. These models will provide you with an idea of the durability of the mattress as your child grows. You can also put in an extra bed skirt or mattress pad to stop it from sliding. Some beds have a side rails or a lip built-in to prevent this from happening.
Storage
Bunk beds are a great way to make space in shared kid rooms. Bunk beds can also be a cheaper alternative to buying two full-sized single beds. Many bunks also provide the option of a trundle bed which can be hidden under the bunk that is not in use.
Consider putting up a kids' bedroom furniture combination set that includes desks, bookcases, and/or dressers to maximize storage space in a bedroom with a bunk bed. This will allow you to keep all of your child's personal belongings such as clothing, toys and clothes in one location without having to cram them into overstuffed closets or chests. The sets of kids bedroom furniture are sold at a variety of retailers. They are safe to use and meet federal standards.
Stacked bunks can become an ideal playground for the imagination as kids can turn the spaces underneath into cosy hidden play areas and hideaway spaces. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked six bunks to create the ultimate kids' space. It can be used for playing, sleeping or even for twirling superhero capes. The room is decorated with a bubble wallcovering of Chasing Paper, and the ceiling is painted Benjamin Moore Blue Jean.
If you're unable to install a staircase for your stacked kids bunk, a ladder can be an easy solution. These ladders are built with a combination of Single Socket Tee Flange, Single Socket Tee and 90 Degree Side Outlet Tee fittings and can be easily adjusted to increase or decrease the distance between ladder rungs to make it easier for toddlers to climb. The rungs of the ladder are also positioned in a way that they are in line with the ground instead of being above it so that climbing is less intimidating.
Another method to maximize space in a room with bunk beds is by installing loft beds for kids that can be lowered down to just above the floor.
bunk bed for kids allows you to move desks, dressers or toy chests under the elevated beds. This is a great method to maximize the space in smaller bedrooms or in large family homes where beds must be sufficient for multiple people to sleep.
