The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also called PZ) along with the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to ensure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around the point. When you apply a force at the end of the lever it will tend to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the force applied. This rotates the force and lets you lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever more, the greater the mechanical advantage. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the place where you apply force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.
Levers also have various effects depending on how the forces are applied. For example the class 2 lever tends to rotate in the opposite direction when the effort force is applied (like a teeter-totter). If you press on the handle of a door and force it to open, the forces will cause rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you exert by changing a small amount of effort across a large distance into a larger amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move large quantities of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools such as crowbars and fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a form of door handle made from UPVC that have levers on both sides to operate the multipoint lock. Lever pad handles are available in a variety of finishes & designs and can be used on a wide range of materials such as UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the outer and inner door with spindles & screws included. They are also available in hand and unhandled versions for different types of users.
These locks can be used to replace an existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lowered to open all multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide a bit more security than standard lever door handles because locking can only be done by the inside using a key.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they're cost-effective ways to add extra security to your home. The only downside is that they do not offer the same level of protection as a cylinder lock and so don't prevent external access to the home if the door is left open.
We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles manufactured by leading manufacturers in the industry. They will therefore be made from high-quality components. They are also generally supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
Typically, they are designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock or the replacement version known as a Paddock lock. They will feature an 82mm cylinder centre on the inside, and 62mm outside. They also come with two spindle followers. Some come with the backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic of all door handles, are used. Pushing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door closed, which can be locked using keys. Some lever privacy handles operate based on this same principle however, with the addition of a lock snib (like the doorknob).
A snib can be extremely useful tool, particularly in homes where security and privacy are important. If your spouse is expected to arrive home late from work, you can use the snib so that they won't be able to enter until they're ready to come in.
More methods is also used in interior doors like bedrooms, where you might require a lock to prevent access from outside.
Snib buttons may cause problems in certain circumstances, especially when you have locks that are old and doors that are warped. If the snib is applied in error, or by a person who isn't quite used to it, the door can close and shut you out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But, this is not ideal.
If your uPVC door has a snib lock, we recommend replacing the handle with an modern E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These locks can be retrofitted on double turn pull handle kits and come with cover plates to conceal the holes that are already present, allowing to make it a seamless installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app that allows you to unlock the door with mechanical keys or RFID cards and can be configured with passcodes for safe entry and convenience. The system is tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are constructed of solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a popular handle style for front doors. It comes with the benefit of keeping the door from being opened from outside without keys if the lock is not deadlocked. This is achieved by an external 'pad' handle which locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being pulled back or the door opened.
This type of handle is designed to fit uPVC doors fitted with multipoint locks that operate with split spindle technology. This type of operation requires that the internal lever handle and the external pad handle be attached to the same lock case. It is a simple change from the current uPVC handles but it may also involve changing the lock case or even a new set of handle furniture to allow for this additional functionality.
