For its most famous dive, the Trieste was crewed by US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh and Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard, and would eventually reach a maximum depth of 10,908 meters (35,787 feet) on the 23rd of January 1960, but that’s the third act of this story, as the diving actually started in 1953.At The Bridge Golf Club (formerly the Bridgehampton Race Circuit), we took in the atmosphere, soaked up the Peconic Bay scenery, and lamented the end of warmth on the East Coast – and at every turn, we were on the lookout for notable watches. From childhood I thought the definition of watchmaking is making the watch, not finishing or assembling. So my goal was to learn how to make all the parts, not to just finish them, and to know that I had truly created something.Fast-forward 20 years, and thin is in again. Cartier's popularity over the past few years has been largely thanks to its small, thin dress watches, and now it's updating the Tank Américaine to better fit this mold. To be sure, the new Américaine still carries the largest profile of the Tank collection, but everything's been slimmed down and refined just a smidge.A few of the watch highlights in the "Tony Bennett: A Life Well Lived" sale are gifts from Frank Sinatra. "He
falsos jaeger-lecoultre Relojes was 10 years younger than Sinatra and the crooners," Danny explained. "Sinatra used to call him 'The Kid.' They were good friends, but the appreciation level was unmatched... and Sinatra was always very generous with gifts and mementos."And the answer is three "very goods." The blue of the dial and the tan of the strap match perfectly, and they both are appropriate with the color and simplicity of the white numerals. Since it says Oris on the crown and on the dial I could have maybe gone without the one on the buckle, but it's not a dealbreaker. I love the "V" of off-white stitching at the end of the strap and the stag beetle, which is the logo of the company Cervo Volante, who sources the deer hides, embossed on its underside.
The SIHH is just now coming to a close, and by now we all know the big introductions for most of the exhibiting brands (or maison, if you will) and of course at IWC this is the year of the Da Vinci. The Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in red gold got some early exposure in December, but it has a sibling in steel as well, and we've had a chance to take a look at it, go hands-on, and see how it feels on the wrist.I think Jack hit the nail on the head there. The Greubel Forsey GMT has always been an astonishing watch, and I'm sure its new titanium construction only aids its inherent wearability. But what makes watches like this special is, really, the fact that they exist at all – a testament to our ability to create, and a monument to our natural curiosity about the world around us.One of the potentially overlooked features of the watch is the appearance (yet again) of the same "T-fit" safety catch on the Oyster-style bracelet that allows on-the-fly adjustment of the bracelet's fit. After releasing the T-fit design in Tudor's boutique-exclusive Black Bay 58 Bronze and this year's Black Bay Pro, I expect we will be seeing it on most of the brand's future
replica richard-miller uhren releases, if not all. And, happily, for a lot of people, the bracelet has no faux rivets in sight. It's hard to say if it was fashion, similar suppliers, or the company buying completed watches and labeling them "Meylan." One thing is clear: Ethan Lipsig, one of the few Meylan scholars and one who has documented nearly every known Meylan movement, said he had never seen a complicated movement dated later than 1918.
The caliber O3.05-C first appeared in the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition and hails from Chopard's
fake tag-heuer watches Fleurier Ebauches factory, a manufacturing center in the town of Fleurier. It's a column-wheel flyback chronograph, as I mentioned, and it runs at a standard rate of 4 Hz while delivering a respectable 60 hours of power reserve. We all want to be as cool as Dr. Sylvia Earle someday. The 86-year-old National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence has been diving since the 1950s, and in this 2017 feature story, she tells our own Jason Heaton (who else?) about what keeps her going, what she wears on her wrist while diving, and – quite simply – why it all matters. How the brood – and we're talking billions of animals – all know to come up, shed their last nymphal exoskeleton (there are four stages of development, called instars; the adult is called an imago) and begin their frenzied exercise in defying mortality, all at the same time, is a mystery. But there are clues.Speaking of Cartier's push to reach a younger generation – having quick-release straps and easily adjustable bracelets is a surefire way to get people into the ecosystem. Nobody likes leaving the house to get their strap changed or bracelet adjusted.
